Calcwise is an independent website with free calculators for everyday money decisions: buying a home, taking out a loan, understanding a paycheck and saving for the future.
What we aim for
Most financial calculators give you a single number and leave it there. We want every result to come with the reasoning behind it: the formula used, a year-by-year breakdown, and a plain-English explanation of what moves the number up or down. That way you can check the result, try different scenarios and make the decision yourself.
How we keep calculators accurate
- Loan, mortgage and savings results use standard amortization and compound-interest formulas, and the worked examples on each page are checked against them.
- Tax calculations use the official figures published by the IRS and the Social Security Administration for 2026, and are reviewed each year when new figures are released.
- Each page shows the date it was last reviewed.
Important
Our calculators give estimates for planning and education. They aren't financial, tax or legal advice. For decisions that depend on your exact situation, talk to a qualified professional or your lender.
